ISO 15105

ISO 15105 is the international standard for determining the gas transmission rate through plastic films and sheeting. This test is essential for evaluating the barrier properties of plastic materials used in packaging, insulation, tubing, and containment applications, especially where gas ingress or loss can compromise performance or safety. Test conditions can be tailored to reflect real-world service environments, including elevated temperatures or specific gas types such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, or methane.

The test setup involves two chambers separated by the plastic sample. One side is pressurized with a specific gas, while the other is kept at low pressure or under vacuum. Over time, the increase in pressure on the low side is used to calculate permeability. Testing is typically done at a set temperature, but alternate conditions can be specified depending on application needs. The simplified pressure sensing method is used to monitor the change in pressure on the low pressure side. This test is especially important for plastic components used in gas service lines, barrier packaging, and specialty applications where gas leakage could lead to contamination, loss of product, or safety hazards. Alpine Polytech performs ISO 15105 testing on a wide range of plastics, with configurable pressure and temperature settings to meet customer requirements
